Palin and the scary people

I just get tired of reading all the hate mongering and BS about Obama - and then I read this from the London Times - and to think that people like THAT are going to vote... - What was Obama doing in Indonesia - Being A KID!!! Closet Muslim??? ok, and even it's true (which it isn't) that's bad... why??? Oh, I get it now... only a good chreeeeeeeeeeeestian can be a President??? oh, please - tell me that I'm wrong...

He actually wants to be a citizen of the world. So do I! Because America is not and shouldn't be an insular, moated country, that wants to keep everyone out - just go to the infamous WalMart - most of the goods are made overseas! Our oil - from overseas. and no, we can't drill our way out of this, if you actually READ the facts, you'll see that it would take too long to get anything out of any fields in Alaska or offshore, and we still wouldn't make up the deficit. Our economy is tied to the world economy, just take a look at the last couple of weeks, or don't they READ anything besides Rash Lamebrain and his ilk... even Faux News has been reporting on the worldwide economic crisis....

Patriotism shouldn't be blind. I'm very proud of being an American, of being the child of a man who served his country as a Coastie, and as a State Dept. officer; of being the wife of a man who has and is still serving his country in uniform; of being the mother of a man who served his country in uniform; of being the mother in law of a woman who served her country in uniform; of being the daughter in law of the man who served his country in uniform.. BUT I see her problems, her bad side as well as her good side. and for some reason, for that - I'm told I'm a traitor and a few other things as well... Being blind to faults in a country (or a human being) doesn't make you a patriot, it just makes you pathetic.

Word.

I'm so tired of being told I'm not patriotic when I criticize my country's shortcomings. And here I thought exercising my freedom of speech and that pesky lump of gray in my noggin made me a good citizen.

I guess I keep forgetting that we're supposed to be bobble heads and just agree with whatever tripe comes out of a politician's mouth because s/he's a conservative with an interest in family values and not a baby-eating, kitten-kicking, necrophiliac liberal!!!!1!

I agree on everything but the oil thing. I think people are under the impression that we don't drill in the US at all. That is such a huge lie and misconception. I can tell you with all honesty that I have see with my own eyes, oil come straight out of the gulf of mexico onto a barge via an american oil company. I see it being pumped out of the ground in Texas all the time. Maybe I am misunderstanding what you're saying, but I am very close to writing one of the driest posts I have ever written just for the sake of proving that there is american oil and that we're NOT being overcharged at the gas stations.

Sara - I'm not saying that we dont' drill... I'm saying that we cannot stop importing oil and make up for that lack using "American oil" EVEN IF we drill in Alaska, off the coasts.. There isn't enough there. Iraq and Saudi and areas in Russia and the Stans have more.

I want you to know something...

"only a good chreeeeeeeeeeeestian can be a President"

Who have you spoken with? Seriously. Frankly most of the folks I speak with who are NOT voting for Obama, do not believe this. And mind you, I know you think I a an evil Republican...I am not for the record.

also

"shouldn't be an insular, moated country, that wants to keep everyone out"

as a the daughter of a third generation German immigrant, I hate when this is used. I also loathe the tired and old racist remarks as well. I am English, French, German, Lakota, Dutch.

And I am glad you family serves, and has served, they make this discussion possible.

I just really want you to know just because I am not voting for Barack does not mean I am rich...or come from wealth. I do not. It does not mean I am racist, I am not, it does not mean I loathe people who find themselves in a rough spot (have been there, many times and we have managed to pull our selves out.)

I refuse to vote for a socialist/communist/marxist, I think your Father who fought for this country wouldn't either...

He saw what those regimes did...

socialist/communist??? who are you talking about? and as for my remarks about the religion and global citizen - I was discussing the London Times article I linked to.

The religion bit? c'mon, how many commentors on McCain's own meetings are saying "he's an Arab, he's a Muslim, we don't want that"... AWTM, I know you don't have lotsa $, you are an Army Wife! And under Obama's plan - which was compared to McCain's plan by more than one journalist - unless you make over 600,000 grand a year, you'll pay MORE taxes under McCain. so... I'm not sure here - who is the big tax and spender?

Wow - I just discovered you blog and what an incredibly fresh breath of air. I am a Navy spouse, and in my husband's almost 7 years in the Navy, I've only met one other liberal member of the Navy. Seems impossible there could be so many ill-informed (or maybe unintelligent) people in the military, and yet...

It frightens me deeply that there are still so many people who want to believe the rhetoric about Obama being a communist/socialist/Muslim/devil being espoused by the McCain campaign. I can only guess that these people want to believe all bad things about Obama because many or so bigoted that they need a reason to justify why they don't want to vote for the clearly superior candidate.
