Enough already!

ONE more word about Michael Jackson - I'll scream! Even the BBC - my place to go to when US media is driving me mad with the trivial BS - they did wall to wall coverage! So my friend misericorde (I know who she is, but she's shy...) started doing RIP tweets, with a different Navy Casualty in Afghanistan. I picked it up and did the Iraq 2009. Yes, MJ was talented, but batshit crazy, drug addicted and had a penchant for strange behaviour and tantrums that were somehow allowed because "he never had a childhood"..excuse, excuse, excuse for bad behaviour - often close to criminal (if not more than close)

But what talent did THEY have? those men and women on the casualty list? did they sing, dance, write songs? Were they great cooks, comedians, runners, writers, poets, students of history, painters? Why are we forgetting to mourn them? Why are we no longer taking a moment to pay our respects to them?

We do have other problems in this country, anyone trying to sell a house (another post altogether) or find a job will understand that... but these men and women died in the service of their country, their ideals. It is time to remember that again, not just on Memorial Day, Veterans Day, July 4. Every day.

I think military folks will probably always be the only ones remembering every day. I really hate that memorial day isn't even honored by rememberance outside our community.

I know MJ was batshit crazy, but before that he was an incredible musician with music that will never die. It's kinda like when elvis died. I know it sucks that so many people are obsessed with his death, but I don't think people are any less oblivious than normal to military deaths. If there was a way to change that, I would be all onboard.

The way you change it is to do exactly what LAW and Mis are doing, by gracefully keeping it in the public consciousness and changing the subject from the inane to the honorable. LAW, you know I would be helping, forgive me for fighting a local battle right now.

LM - you need to fight that battle. We're behind you, and next to you, and if need be, we'll be in front of you.

Like you said, we are changing the subject. We've yelled, we've screamed, now we are quietly saying "listen"...

I'm right there with you!!! Lets move on... he more than likely brought death upon himself. There are much bigger fish to fry- so to speak.

I am so glad that someone is out there doing that. I don't twitter, but I appreciate that people recognize that MJ was talented, but doesn't need round the clock coverage.

The reaction of my friends, family, and the public is kind of ridiculous. I wish people would pay more attention to the heroes, like you mentioned.

Thank you for trying to draw attention back to where it belongs.
